Mission

Vision
Our vision is to provide leadership that sustains arts and humanities organizations, artists and scholars and inspires participation in our County’s rich cultural assets.
In Montgomery County, Maryland, the arts and humanities are a vibrant and vital part of our community. That’s why Montgomery County was named one of the most attractive places to live in the nation (CNN Money “Best Places for a Long Life,” 2008). Since 1976, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) has been the County’s designated local arts agency. Through our programs and services, AHCMC provides the infrastructure and support necessary to maintain a robust creative community that includes over 500 cultural organizations and 2,000 artists and scholars.
AHCMC annually distributes over $5 million in grants to organizations and individuals to help fund enriching cultural activities in our County (see past grant awards). Funding is provided by the Montgomery County Government, the Maryland State Arts Council, corporations, organizations and individuals.
AHCMC manages the following programs, services, and resources:
- Grants to Arts and Humanities Organizations and Individual Artists and Scholars
- Arts and Humanities Advocacy
- Public Arts Trust | Managing Montgomery County’s Collection of 3 dimensional sculptures and works on paper
- MarketPower | Our Cooperative Marketing & Professional Development Program
- CultureSpotMC.com | Montgomery County’s Cultural Events Calendar
