Roslyn Cambridge

Roslyn Cambridge, a native of Trinidad and Tobago West Indies, resides in Silver Spring, Maryland. Her appreciation for music and art was evident from early childhood. She was surrounded by talented parents, family and friends and was encouraged to pursue her education. Around age five, she started piano lessons, and as a pre-teen even took exams with the Royal and Trinity School of Music with the intent of becoming a concert pianist. Roslyn also exhibited her works of art in Trinidad. Notwithstanding her talent on the piano, it would turn out that Roslyn’s true passion was painting, although she continued to play for pleasure.

Roslyn Cambridge has earned certificates from the Washington School of Art, Port Washington, and, New York Phoenix School of Design. She graduated from Howard University cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts. Roslyn also graduated from Syracuse University with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Museum Studies.

Roslyn’s works have been exhibited nationally and internationally. In St. Petersburg, Russia, she exhibited her works and lectured on the issues of art education and conducted several painting workshops. The Ford Foundation Grants and Howard University Trustee Tuition Scholarship are among her numerous honors and awards. Her teaching awards include Who’s Who Among American Teachers (2005 and 2006); she received the Excellence in Education Achievement Award from the Washington Post and D. C. Public Schools. Roslyn was given the award of Excellence in Art Installation by the D. C. Art Content Specialist. The Principal of Moten Elementary and the D. C. Superintendent of Schools conferred on her the Certificate of Teacher Appreciation Award. Roslyn implemented art exhibitions and encouraged her students to exhibit in national and international exhibitions. In 2010, Roslyn initiated a rooftop art exhibition at the Veridian in Silver Spring, Maryland, to help benefit a fund for Christ in Action, a charity that sent help to Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.

In 2017, Roslyn published her first picture/poem book Dream Flower consisting of seventeen paintings in watercolor and gouache on 24×36 watercolor papers. In 2018 she published a collection of poems with illustrations entitled Personal Reflections – A Short visit to Trinidad and Tobago. In 2020, her third publication Reliving the Past – Poems and Paintings was released. In 2021, her fourth book Times of Refreshing, an inspirational book celebrating Art, and Poetry was published. And, in 2022, her fifth book Speak to my Spirit, a publication on meditations was published.

Artist Statement

The universality and beauty of God’s nature, and the sparkle and joy of life persistently excites me.  This consciousness inspires me to observe and create paintings reminiscent of my surroundings.  “The Earth’s Reaction” series was inspired by the changing landscapes of our earth’s crust which is in many cases are obscured by our daily activities.   

“Some landscape changes are due to slow processes, such as erosion and weathering, and some changes are due to rapid processes, such as landslides, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes…” Earth’s Changing Surface.   

Color and juxtaposition of line and shape in the painterly landscapes and collage compositions suggest motion, and the theory of tectonic plates.

Julee Dickerson-Thompson

Julee Dickerson-Thompson is a visual artist whose vision is expressed through painting, collage, mixed media, pen and ink drawings, soft sculpture and book making,.  

Her passion for Art was ignited in 1970s high school as Workshop for Careers in the Arts (now Duke Ellington HS) accepted her into their pilot program.  

Born of very creative parents in Washington, DC, the Smithsonian’s Galleries, museums and programs were her inspiration and playground. After college in Boston (Simmons B.A., Mass College of Art, The Museum School 3 years, residency in Ghana, W. Africa),  Julee returned to a thriving arts community. In 1978 she landed joyfully into the Zenith Art Colony. Dickerson-Thompson later became a presence during GABA (The Golden Age of Black Art—WDC:70s -90’s) with a thriving gallery local and national resume.  

Julee has had numerous exhibits, precious collectors and meaningful patrons. Her extensive travels have impacted her ability to see her work evolve.  Still it is her family/village/community, social concerns and political intensity that have provided her greatest muse. As a founding Mother of The Young Masters Inc (a 38 year old intergenerational arts program) her work becomes immortal. 

During Covid19 Julee became part of a 9 Black Women’s Collective that created collaborative handmade books telling the compelling story of the turbulent experience in “Project 2020.”  The books have already traveled from Pyramid Gallery (Mt. Rainier) to Blackburn Gallery (New York), MICA , and in October, Chicago, Illinois. 

Artist Statement

I Feed Them Art for Nourishment—less fattening and much more fulfilling! 

I immerse myself in Art and enjoy the glory.   

I’m still figuring it out…blending Ancestral Colors, painting libations, watching precious scraps tell stories on canvas. .. 

Other artists purchase new supplies at the craft store while I join the dive at the dumpster. There, reincarnations of decayed antiquities and precious memoirs wait to board my time capsule for the future. 

I traded in my soapbox for the mighty pen.  Beirogriffics– Purging in Pen— is my coded language. Painting metaphors and “Reconstructed Riddles” are my favorite new addiction. Zero waste is a challenging goal but my commitment to Mother Nature. 

 I enjoy the chance for your eyes to travel through endless details and find the meaning and the message. Perhaps you can help me understand the “Creator.”  

My Art—seeks to amplify prayers, proverbs, thoughts and stories.  The goal is is an inspiration for an evolved and happier universal family. Rx=Art.

Marta Lopez Teigeiro

Marta is a multimedia artist and creator that believes art is one of the most valuable commutation tools available to humanity. Enthusiastic about all art forms, her practice is mostly in the visual arts and traditional textile crafts.

Originally from the region of Andalucía in the south of Spain, she has lived in the United States for the last 40 years.

As a painter, she works and practices with various media and techniques. Building on years of watercolor and acrylic painting experience, she currently enjoys experimenting with various artistic mediums and techniques.

The realistic or stylized representation of the story captured by the visual impact of a fleeting moment in time, is a common subject in her work. Using strong color and expressive composition, Marta tries to entice and establish an immediate connection with the viewer.

Inspiring her practice is the work of representational painters such as Joaquin Sorolla, Francisco Goya, Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keeffe to name a few. The work of American abstract expressionists and color field movement artists like Ellen Frankenthaler and Morris Louis are other notable influences. 

Her work has been recognized with awards, public art installations and private work commissions. Marta’s paintings are collected in the United States and around the world. 

She currently resides, works and teaches artists of all ages in Montgomery county, in the state of Maryland, North America.

Artist Statement

Light in nature, and the expression of human emotions inspire my practice. Artistic techniques and materials become tools by which to accomplish a reaction from the viewer. The work and its meaning are transformed by the viewers individual experience. It becomes theirs, somehow.
