FREE SPACE

The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) is pleased to present FREE SPACE, an exhibition featuring artists Akemi Maegawa and Jackie Hoysted, who have collaborated to create a series of installations intended for public activation. These works invite visitors to play, create, and experience a space where opposing realities converge. A public reception will take place at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery and Music Room on Friday, July 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., free and open to the public. FREE SPACE will be on view at the Kramer Gallery from Friday, July 6 through Friday, September 7, 2018.

Jackie Hoysted

Jackie Hoysted (b. Dublin, Ireland) is a multi-media artist living and working in Bethesda, Maryland. She is interested in creating awareness of social and political issues that have personal significance to her such as identity, health, feminism, economy and religion.

Akemi Maegawa

Akemi Maegawa (b. Tsu, Japan) creates simple works with dual meanings. Her work, which reveals a specialization in ceramics and sculpture, questions the world in which we live and makes political, social, and economic statements, often by combining disparate elements.
